Moving Forward
Now the semester is coming to an end, the real work will begin. As a group, we will continue to strive for excellence and will continue to keep up to date with the tasks required.
Material Agitation
Due to the strong adhesion between the PPS milling fibers, sieving the material can be wasteful. ASTM for compaction tests requires #4 sieved material for testing, this leaves large amounts of rejected material without much purpose. We have expiremented with multiple potential solutions, using water as a lubricant to release the adhesion between the fibers. Physical breakdown of the fiberious clusters within a cement mixer containing metal ball bearings. Finally, physcially striking the clusters with mallets, in hopes of breaking the adhesion with force. No viable solutions have been found.
Testing
Withcompaction testing winding down, Permeability testing can begin. As a group we plan on finishing all our tests and deciphering the data by April, 2016, in time for the WERC conference in New Mexico.
